-Galactic Protector: Sega Master System-
|
-Overview-
Here's the story from the instruction manual:
An enormous comet came from the far reaches of the galaxy and swept
across the sun.
Metorites attached to the comet and asteroids from the asteroid belt,
which had been influenced by the comet, began to rain down on the planets
Earth, Saturn, and Jupiter.
If nothing is done, Mankind and the Solar System will be completely
destroyed. Opa-Opa and his brother Upa-Upa have just finished spaceship
training in deep space, and are called back to face the sudden crisis.
However, with each passing moment, the meteorite clusters draw closer.
Now, Opa-Opa and Upa-Upa are Mankind's only ray of hope.
They board their newly-completed spaceships, and embark [on a mission]
to destroy the meteorites. However...
-Short Review-
This is one of the Mark III paddle games, but it plays
pretty well in MEKA with the arrow keys. The game can get a bit repetative,
as the same 3 planets repeat over and over. 2 players working together
can easily play through all 25 rounds, but the game can get kind of difficult
with just 1 player. The graphics are fairly simple, but the planets
have plenty of animation, and react to oncoming meteorites. the music's
nothing special, but it fits the game well, and when you finish a round
without letting the planet get hit, you're treated to a nice "perfect"
voice clip.
The ending is extremely simple, with just a picture of the 2 ships
on a nice looking beach, and a simple little tune playing in the background,
no text at all. Oddly enough the ending shows the red ship (Opa-Opa)
with it's cockpit open, suggesting that the craft were piloted by humans.
Overall, it's a fun little game, but I think the Opa-Opa/Upa-Upa connection
was added to try to boost sales.
