-Fantasy Zone: MSX-1-
-Overview-

To give you an idea of the MSX's hardware, imagine a Colecovision with more RAM, and you'll be really close.
This version of the game was ported by Pony Canyon, who used to do alot of video games, but now mostly only makes soundtrack CD's for the Japanese market.

-Short Review-

I didn't expect too much out of the MSX Fantasy Zone port, and I didn't get too much either, but taking everything into consideration, it's probably about the best the MSX could do.
The graphics seem to be taken from the SMS version and reduced down to the MSX's capabilities. This theory is supported by the inclusion of the 2 SMS original bosses (Piranha and Tortise). The backgrounds look pretty good in general, but I wish Opa-Opa was a different, more visible color.
The Sound's ok, and all the tunes are recognisable, but don't sound as good as the other ports.
And the gameplay is fairly good, but the choppy MSX scrolling, and bullets that CAN NOT be evaded by moving left or right hinder the fun somewhat. Also, in many instances, the bosses are quite different from the arcade, and either alot easier, or alot more difficult.
It may not be great, but it's still Fantasy Zone.
